It is not an exaggeration to call the Mangun Dharma Art Center one of the most exciting and innovative study options offered in Indonesian arts and crafts anywhere in the world. The Mangun Dharma Art Center facilitates individual study and research by providing a setting in which artists and community members can meet, discuss and workshop new ideas and traditional skills. The center has an established network of artists and craftspeople, ranging from traditional mask carvers and performers to contemporary painters, which allows the new student access to a world otherwise opaque. Students staying at the art center are drawn into the lives of the dancers, musicians and fellow visitors around them. While there is space available to work on the practical arts at the art center (for example, carving or batik), students also have the opportunity to travel to their teachers' houses in the surrounding villages for additional instruction.

Unlike other educational or arts facilities, the Mangun Dharma Art Center does not run structured classes; students set their own schedules and individual direction in their program of tuition. There are a number of skilled practitioners in all disciplines working closely with the centre, and students can choose the teachers who best suit their needs or interests. The center is ideal for students who are self-motivated and have personal goals and ideas for research or art practice. We support artistic expression without the restrictions of a set program.

Because we tailor every program to the individual or group we have a multitude of options available to students of any age. Studio sessions for adults generally last for 3 hours, and for children 1 hour. Aside from offering weekly courses, we often host one day intensive workshops for both children and adults. The most popular options are batiking and mask painting. We are delighted to offer lunch and a performance to be included in the package.

Accommodation is available 800 meters to the south of the Mangun Dharma Art Center at the Gunung Tabor Hotel and Retreat. The hotel has economy rooms and more luxurious rooms with built in bath. There is a swimming pool and restaurant. Contact: ++62 341 787-711 or ++62 341 787-941
